Sony Ericsson has had trouble gaining traction in the U.S. wireless marketplace. Most of the company's recent efforts, including the excellent Walkman W810i and the disappointing Xperia X1, have been aimed at the unlocked high end. Sony Ericsson aims to change that with the W995a, a tiny aluminum slider that embodies the company's renewed efforts to sell unlocked handsets to customers here, most of whom are wary of their high up-front prices. And the W995a comes well armed, especially for a feature phone. It includes a powerful, 8.1-megapixel camera with face detection and image stabilization, built-in Walkman 3.0 music and video players, and a full complement of wireless radios.
