



The Microsoft Kin One is a well-designed, cute little messaging phone in the spirit of the T-Mobile Sidekick ($49.99, ). Along with its sibling the Kin Two, it's one of the first Zune phones and the closest you'll get to Windows Phone 7 before "the holidays." Had it been free with contract or on a prepaid plan, the Kin One could have kicked other texting phones to the curb. But Verizon has made the Kin One more expensive to own than the Palm Pre Plus ($29.99,
)—and in that company, the Kin phones look downright crippled.
